Leah Katz, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist practicing in Portland, Oregon. Originally from New York, she completed her doctorate training at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. While living in New York, Dr. Katz worked at a community clinic where she led several groups, treated individuals and couples in therapy, and taught at Stern College for Women.
She currently works in a group practice where she specializes in working with teenagers and women, with a focus on treating anxiety and depression, amongst other things. She utilizes a hybrid of cognitive behavioral, ACT, and mindfulness techniques in her therapy work. She has gone on several mindfulness retreats and incorporates mindfulness concepts into the therapeutic work she does. She also facilitates mindfulness groups for the broader community and gives talks related to mental health and wellness.
Dr. Katz is passionate about girls’ and women’s mental health, and helping women navigate challenges to live deeply connected and fulfilled lives. Jessi Gold, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Wellness, Engagement, and Outreach in the Department of Psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis. She is a nationally recognized expert on healthcare worker mental health and burnout (particularly during the pandemic), college mental health, using social media and media for mental health advocacy, and the overlap between pop culture and mental health, including celebrity self-disclosure. Dr. Gold is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. and M.S in Anthropology, the Yale School of Medicine, and completed her residency training in Adult Psychiatry at Stanford University where she served as chief resident.
Dr. Gold also writes for the popular press and has been featured in, among others, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, TIME, Forbes, In Style, and Self. Her family was visiting in-laws over spring break and one day when she was out shopping, she received a phone call from her husband that their toddler daughter fell into the pool and had no heartbeat. Alia shares her miraculous story of how her daughter was rushed to the hospital and had no pulse for over 20 minutes, spent 6 days in a medically induced coma undergoing multiple screenings to see if she had brain damage and waiting for the fluid in her lungs to cleared, and 9 days total in the ICU. May is National Water Safety Awareness Month, so please listen to Alia’s full story of her experience and how she hopes this episode will encourage parents to be mindful of water safety and help save a child’s life!

Dr. Pooja Lakshmin, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist and author specializing in women's mental health with a focus on how broken social systems impact women’s emotional lives. She is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, a medical advisor to Peloton, and the founder of Gemma, the first digital education platform dedicated exclusively to women’s mental health. She is also the author of the forthcoming book from Penguin Life, coming in 2023, in which she discusses the tyranny of self-care and offers a 4-part novel framework for women to build authentic and sustainable well-being in the face of systemic stressors.
Dr. Lakshmin is a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry at the George Washington University School of Medicine, where she is a clinical supervisor in the Five Trimesters perinatal psychiatry clinic. She is most passionate about empowering women and sees her clinical work as a women’s mental health psychiatrist as an extension of this mission. Dr. Lakshmin maintains a private practice where she applies an integrative approach to taking care of women suffering from maternal mental health conditions. She also serves on the board of directors of the Maternal Mental Health Leadership Alliance, a national non-profit dedicated to furthering maternal mental health policy, and is active in advocacy work and community building through online platforms, including her Instagram page @womensmentalhealthdoc. Dr. Lakshmin is a frequent contributor to The New York Times, and her advice has been featured on Good Morning America, The Drew Barrymore Show, NPR, Glamour, Marie Claire, Self, Harper’s Bazaar, Bustle and various other media outlets.
